About the Role
Palladium is seeking a strategic and experienced Energy Access Portfolio Lead to drive the growth and direction of its Energy Access Portfolio. This role involves designing and delivering complex energy access projects across Kenya and the broader region, focusing on rural electrification, mini-grids, solar home systems, and productive uses of energy. The Lead will act as a senior advisor to governments, financial institutions, and private sector companies while leading high-performing multidisciplinary teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Growth: Lead the strategic growth and direction of the Energy Access Portfolio, executing business development plans aligned with Palladium’s vision.
- Project Delivery: Design and deliver complex energy access projects including rural electrification, mini-grids, and integration with health, agriculture, and digital inclusion sectors.
- Advisory Services: Provide strategic advice to governments, donors, and the private sector on policy, regulation, business operations, and access to finance.
- Team Leadership: Develop and manage multidisciplinary teams, recruiting, mentoring, and retaining talent to deliver outstanding results.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain trusted relationships with national associations, government agencies, private sector innovators, and donors.
- Business Development: Identify new opportunities, prepare proposals, and manage client relationships to drive portfolio growth.
- Technical Excellence: Ensure technical excellence and quality control across all deliverables, maintaining rigorous standards and driving innovation.
- Thought Leadership: Represent Palladium at industry events, conferences, and in sector working groups.
- Market Intelligence: Monitor market trends and policy developments to inform strategy and identify emerging opportunities.
- Collaboration: Foster collaboration with other Palladium practices and global teams, leveraging cross-functional expertise.
Requirements and Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Business, or a related field.
- Experience: 12+ years of progressive experience in energy access, rural electrification, and productive uses of energy.
- Leadership: Proven track record of team building and managing diverse, multidisciplinary teams.
- Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of energy access technologies (mini-grids, SHS, grid extension) and enabling regulatory environments.
- Financial Expertise: Experience in business acceleration, access to finance, and results-based finance design.
- Commercial Acumen: Strong commercial skills including P&L management, proposal development, and client acquisition.
- Network: Existing relationships with key stakeholders in the Kenyan and regional energy sectors.
- Multinational Context: Ability to navigate diverse cultural and regulatory environments.
