Electrician

The University of Eastern Africa, Baraton (UEAB) is an internationally acclaimed institution seeking a qualified Electrician. The role is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems and appliances across the campus and university staff housing. The successful candidate will manage power distribution, lighting systems, and backup power generators to ensure a safe and reliable electrical infrastructure for the university community.### Responsibilities

• Installation of electrical appliances and equipment for the university and in the university workers’ homes.
• Service and repair of faulty power lines.
• Repair and maintenance of electrical appliances and equipment for the university and staff residences.
• Maintenance of electrical installation tools, equipment, and records of maintenance activities across the entire campus.
• Ensure compliance with electrical safety standards and regulations.
• Install, repair, and maintain lighting systems including floodlights, security, and street lighting around the campus.
• Changing or replacement of lighting system components such as bulbs, tubes, starters, sockets, and ballast.
• Replacement and maintenance of instant heaters in student hostels.
• Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance of electrical systems and main switches.
• Support installation, inspection, repair, and servicing of generators and backup power systems.
• Fueling of the generator and checking source-to-consumer connections.
• Troubleshoot electrical faults and ensure quick restoration of power systems.
• Identify spare parts required for repairing university electrical equipment.
• Work closely with the Maintenance Department to support campus infrastructure needs.
• Perform other duties assigned by the Physical Plant Manager.### Requirements
• Diploma in Electrical Engineering or Diploma in Electrical Installation from a recognized institution.
• At least 2–3 years of practical work experience in electrical installation and maintenance.
• Knowledge of electrical systems: Power distribution, Lighting, Generator systems, and fault diagnosis.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and wiring diagrams.
• Good knowledge of electrical safety standards and regulations.
• Must be registered or eligible for registration with the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA).
• Good communication and teamwork skills.
• High level of integrity and professionalism.
• Knowledge in refrigeration and cold rooms is an advantage.
• Must be a Christian of regular standing.
• Reliable and flexible to work on underground and overhead lines, including odd hours.
