The Electrical Engineer Intern at Kenya Electricity Generating Company PLC (KenGen) is an entry-level position designed for graduates to gain practical experience in the energy sector. The role involves supporting the technical operations and maintenance of the company's extensive power generation infrastructure, including geothermal, hydroelectric, and thermal plants.
Key Responsibilities
Operations & Maintenance: Participate in the operation, repair, and maintenance of power plants, instrumentation systems, power system protection, switchgear, generators, transformers, motors, and compressors.
Technical Support: Assist in the maintenance of workshop equipment, tools, drilling rigs, and building services systems.
Supervision: Support the supervision of construction, installation, and commissioning of power plant equipment and plant automation systems.
Testing & Calibration: Perform testing and calibration of electrical equipment to ensure accuracy and safety.
Monitoring & Reporting: Monitor maintenance programs, energy generation output, and project implementation schedules. Prepare reports on equipment performance and technical metrics.
Data Collection: Gather data for maintenance planning, engineering projects, and energy resource forecasting.
Management Assistance: Assist in contract administration and the management of geothermal wells, steam-fields, and reservoir monitoring.
Safety Compliance: Strictly adhere to quality, occupational health, and safety standards in all operational activities.
Requirements and Qualifications
Education: Must hold a Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Technology Degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering or Instrumentation Engineering from a recognized institution.
Professional Accreditation: Must be accredited by the Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK).
Flexibility: Must be prepared to serve in any of the company’s business areas or operational sites across Kenya.
