Role Overview
British American Tobacco (BAT) is seeking an Electrical and Instrumentation Executive to ensure the reliable operation and maintenance of site electrical distribution and instrumentation systems. This role is central to managing the electrical and instrumentation infrastructure within a manufacturing facility, focusing on maximum uptime of utilities and factory equipment through rigorous maintenance, leading automation projects, and driving energy sustainability targets.
Key Responsibilities
Electrical System Maintenance and Reliability
- Ensure reliable operation of site electrical distribution systems, including transformers, switchgear, MCCs, UPS systems, generators, solar plants, HVAC, and power monitoring systems.
- Lead preventive and predictive maintenance programs for electrical infrastructure.
- Coordinate fault diagnosis and corrective actions to minimize downtime.
- Manage electrical safety compliance and ensure adherence to statutory electrical standards.
- Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities, equipment performance, and reliability metrics.
Instrumentation and Control Systems
- Maintain and optimize instrumentation systems (flow meters, pressure transmitters, temperature sensors, level controls, and analyzers).
- Ensure reliability of PLC, SCADA, and automation systems supporting utilities and factory infrastructure.
- Lead calibration programs and support automation upgrades and initiatives.
Utilities Operations Support
- Provide technical support for utilities including steam/boiler control systems, compressed air/vacuum systems, chillers, HVAC, and water treatment/pumping systems.
- Ensure accurate monitoring of energy and utility performance data.
Energy and Sustainability
- Support energy management initiatives, monitoring consumption and identifying efficiency opportunities.
- Implement energy-saving projects such as VSD installations and smart control systems.
- Conduct periodic audits and support reporting of energy performance and sustainability metrics.
Project Management & Execution
- Plan, execute, and monitor engineering capital (CAPEX) and operational projects.
- Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and according to safety and quality standards.
- Coordinate with contractors and suppliers for retrofits and expansions.
Team Collaboration & Development
- Lead and manage a team of approximately 10-15 people.
- Provide technical coaching and training to the utilities team.
- Work cross-functionally with Manufacturing, Supply Chain, EHS, and Quality departments.
Qualifications and Experience
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or Instrumentation Engineering.
- Experience: 3-5 years of experience in industrial electrical and automation systems, preferably in FMCG or manufacturing.
- Technical Mastery: Strong knowledge of PLC, SCADA, automation, electrical distribution, and utilities systems (boilers, compressors, HVAC).
- Software Skills: Proficiency in AutoCAD, Excel, Power BI, or other analytical tools.
- Process Tools: Familiarity with structured problem tools (fishbone diagram, 5 why, RCA).
- Standards: Strong knowledge of EHS (Environment, Health & Safety) standards and compliance.
