Director of Technology

Role Overview\nInnovations for Poverty Action (IPA) is a non-profit organization dedicated to discovering and promoting effective solutions to global poverty problems. The Director of Technology is responsible for defining and stewarding the organization's IT strategy and governance, leading the IT function, and ensuring security and compliance across a distributed, multi-country environment. The role involves managing a team of professionals, overseeing enterprise systems, and advising senior leadership on technology risks and investments. This role is carried out in close coordination with the Global Operations Senior Director and IPA’s Senior Management Team.\n\n### Key Responsibilities\n* IT Strategy and Governance: Develop and maintain IPA's IT strategy aligned with organizational priorities. Own the governance framework (policies, standards, and controls) covering security, access management, data governance, and emerging technologies. Ensure governance is practical, compliant with regulatory requirements, and understood across country offices.\n* Team Leadership: Manage, develop, and retain a team of six IT professionals, including system administrators, data engineers, and support staff. Foster a culture of service orientation, accountability, and documentation while building team capability and ensuring technical redundancies.\n* Security, Compliance, and Risk Management: Lead IPA's information security direction, ensuring controls are proportionate to organizational risk. Ensure compliance with donor, contractual, and regulatory requirements related to data protection. Oversee audit readiness and coordinate responses to security incidents.\n* Organizational Alignment and Budgeting: Lead change management for significant technology transitions. Oversee IT budget planning and financial reporting, ensuring transparency and value for money.\n* Strategic Advisory: Advise senior leadership on technology risks, investment decisions, and the adoption of emerging technologies, including AI and automation.\n\n### Qualifications and Requirements\n* Experience: \n * 7+ years in a senior IT leadership role with accountability for enterprise systems in production environments.\n * 5+ years managing IT teams, including direct oversight of senior technical staff.\n * 5+ years overseeing enterprise system integrations, SaaS platforms, and cloud environments (ERP, CRM, or data warehouse).\n * 5+ years as a senior escalation authority for technical or security incidents.\n * 3+ years developing or managing IT governance frameworks and internal controls.\n * 3+ years in environments with regulatory, donor, or audit compliance requirements.\n * 3+ years overseeing IT budgeting, vendor management, and SLA accountability.\n * 3+ years leading change management for enterprise technology implementations.\n* Education: Bachelor's degree (BA/BSc/HND) in a relevant field.\n* Skills: \n * Experience communicating technology risks to non-technical stakeholders.\n * Familiarity with enterprise business intelligence environments (e.g., Power BI).\n\n### How to Apply\nInterested and qualified candidates should apply online through the Innovations for Poverty Action (IPA) career portal on workforcenow.adp.com.
