
Meru County Revenue Board
The Deputy Director, Legal Services is responsible for providing legal advisory services to the Meru County Revenue Board to ensure compliance with existing laws and regulatory requirements. This senior role involves drafting, reviewing, and vetting legal instruments, conducting comprehensive legal audits, and identifying risk areas within the Board's operations. The officer will also manage the legal unit's registry, oversee budgets, coordinate litigation with external counsel, and provide secretarial support to the Board, including the preparation of agendas and minutes.\n\n### Duties and Responsibilities\n- Provide legal advisory services to the Board to ensure compliance with existing law and regulatory requirements.\n- Draft, review, and vet legal instruments and advise management and the Board.\n- Carry out regular legal audits in the Board to ensure compliance.\n- Identify and monitor areas of risk in legal compliance and recommend precautionary measures.\n- Research, review, analyze, and interpret laws and regulations for management and the Board.\n- Prepare and monitor the unit’s budgets and expenditures.\n- Draft and review legal pleadings, attend court and quasi-judicial tribunals, and coordinate witness preparation.\n- Instruct external legal counsel and monitor the progress of cases.\n- Assist in coordinating Board meetings by preparing notices, agendas, papers, and minutes.\n- Assist in managing Board meeting annual work plans and training.\n- Monitor implementation of Board decisions and prepare progress reports.\n- Manage the unit’s legal registry, including documentation and policy manuals.\n\n### Requirements and Qualifications\n- Minimum of six (6) cumulative years of relevant work experience, with at least two (2) years at a senior management level.\n- Master’s Degree in Law, Business Administration, Public Administration, or equivalent qualifications from a recognized institution.\n- Bachelor’s degree in Law (LLB) from a recognized institution.\n- Post-graduate diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law.\n- Advocate of the High Court of Kenya and a member of the Law Society of Kenya in good standing.\n- Certificate in a management course lasting not less than four (4) weeks from a recognized institution.\n- Proficiency in computer applications.\n- Demonstrated competence in work performance.\n- Fulfillment of the requirements of Chapter Six (6) of the Constitution of Kenya.\n\n### How to Apply\nApplications should include all relevant supporting documents and be submitted on or before Wednesday, 4th March 2026 at 5:00 p.m. (EAT).
