Deputy Director, Health Promotion and Capacity Development

The Deputy Director, Health Promotion and Capacity Development at the National Syndemic Diseases Control Council (NSDCC) provides strategic leadership in the formulation, implementation, and review of policies, strategies, and procedures. The role is pivotal in supporting advocacy and capacity-building efforts for the effective management and control of syndemic diseases across Kenya.

Key Responsibilities

• Policy Development: Partner with government ministries, departments, and counties to promote and implement effective health promotion policies, strategies, and guidelines.
• Primary Healthcare Strengthening: Enhance efficiency in eliminating syndemic diseases by strengthening primary health care networks and community health structures.
• Stakeholder Collaboration: Drive inter-sectoral collaborations with relevant stakeholders to accelerate progress toward disease elimination.
• Resource Development: Develop and disseminate technical communication materials, standards, and guidelines for health promotion.
• Education & Capacity Building: Create protocols and curricula for health education and capacity-building programs and lead the training of stakeholders on disease control.
• Technical Communication: Support internal departments in developing technical messages and content while reviewing technical communication plans.
• Digital Innovation: Promote the adoption of digitized Information Systems to track and monitor the progress of syndemic disease elimination.
• Universal Health Coverage: Advocate for the uptake of primary health care services for prevention and control within the Universal Health Coverage framework.

Academic Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Health Economics, Epidemiology, Medicine, Social Sciences, Biostatistics, Procurement and Supplies Management, Product Design, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related discipline.
• Master’s degree in Public Health, Health Economics, Epidemiology, Social Sciences, Biostatistics, Procurement and Supplies Management, Product Design, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related discipline.

Professional Qualifications & Experience

• Professional qualification and membership in good standing where applicable.
• Completion of a leadership course lasting at least four (4) weeks from a recognized institution.
• Proficiency in computer applications.
• Minimum of ten (10) years of relevant work experience, with at least four (4) years in a management role.
