The Data Engineer joins the Data Engineering & Architecture team to evolve Audience Management at the International Rescue Committee (IRC). This role is responsible for quality assurance and stewardship of data received from fundraising, content, and analytics activities, both external and internal. Key tasks include planning, designing, and completing data list pulls and upload routines, alongside proactive monitoring and reporting of data quality issues.
Responsibilities
Perform data list pulls from External Relations data using Azure MSSQL, Databricks, and Salesforce based on stakeholder requirements.
Manage Extract, Transform, and Load (ETL) processes from vendor sources into Azure MSSQL, Databricks, and Salesforce.
Develop and automate recurring data processing operations to optimize efficiency.
Create and maintain Excel VBA templates for partners to ensure alignment with project requirements.
Develop database code (Stored Procedures, Notebooks, SQL Queries, Functions, and Views) required by business processes.
Optimize system performance by restructuring databases and managing updates or migrations.
Ensure the integrity of data structures and quality of data content while maintaining accurate documentation.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into sophisticated systems and reporting solutions.
Monitor database performance and identify/resolve data inconsistencies using advanced SQL queries.
Act as a subject matter expert for database processes, data handling, and automation tools.
Review and resolve database-related Salesforce cases submitted by internal partners.
Requirements and Qualifications
Education: Minimum of an Associate’s Degree; Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or Engineering is preferred.
Experience: 5+ years of hands-on experience in Data Management, specifically in ETL processes.
Professional experience with CRM and relational databases (non-profit experience is a plus).
Advanced knowledge of SQL database development, query performance tuning, and data manipulation.
Proficiency in Databricks, DBT, MongoDB, and MSSQL queries (DBAmp for Salesforce integration).
Technical skills in MS Office VBA for process automation and template creation.
Experience with Salesforce NPSP (Nonprofit Success Pack) is preferred.
Familiarity with Agile delivery models and ETL design sessions.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.
Excellent oral and written communication skills to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
