Oracle is looking for a Data Center Operations Site Manager to oversee critical infrastructure and day-to-day operations at our data center facilities in Nairobi. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring the highest levels of reliability and availability for Oracle’s cloud services. This involves a blend of technical management, vendor coordination, and infrastructure oversight. You will serve as a technical authority on-site, managing everything from power and cooling capacity to complex IT system deployments.
Key Responsibilities
- Capacity & Audit Management: Conduct regular audits for power and mechanical capacity; oversee and implement necessary environmental changes.
- Troubleshooting & RCA: Collaborate with internal teams to troubleshoot infrastructure issues and perform Root Cause Analysis (RCA) followed by Corrective Action (CA).
- Vendor Liaison: Partner with local colocation providers to understand site topology and articulate technical issues effectively.
- Deployment Oversight: Plan and manage the effective delivery and installation of server racks.
- Standards & Documentation: Maintain and develop 5S standards on assigned sites; ensure all operations adhere to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Operational Validation: Validate the functionality of electrical and mechanical systems in collaboration with project teams.
- Technical Leadership: Act as the primary technical authority for your assigned area, offering expertise in failure mode analysis and global resiliency risks.
- Mentorship: Coach and mentor individual contributors across the global organization.
- Global Collaboration: Share ideas and best practices with other EMEA regions and participate in technical operational reviews.
Requirements and Qualifications
- Education: BA/BSc/HND qualification. Engineering or technical education is preferred.
- Experience: At least 5 years of experience in data center operations, hosting, or critical infrastructure management.
- Vendor Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience working directly with vendors or colocation partners.
- Technical Knowledge: Solid understanding of data center fundamentals (power, cooling, cabling, networking) and multi-node IT architecture.
- Physical Capability: Ability to work on step ladders and lift equipment weighing up to 25 Kg.
- Communication: Fluency in written and spoken English with strong multi-culture awareness.
- Mindset: A DevOps mindset with a strong desire to learn and ownership of tasks.
- Skills (Desirable): Programming/scripting skills (SQL, APEX, Python) and familiarity with LV cabling (copper, fiber).
- Travel: Ability to travel 1-2 times per year to other EMEA regions.
