Missions of Hope International (MOHI) is a Christ-centered, non-governmental organization that serves orphaned and vulnerable children, their families and others in the Mathare Valley slums of Nairobi and other disadvantaged communities throughout Kenya. The Credit Officer will work very closely with communities to establish viable groups for effective credit delivery, sell products, and manage a healthy loan portfolio. The individual also serves as a local business management and finance advisor.
Key Responsibilities
Sales and Marketing
Solicit new loan accounts in accordance with periodic performance targets prescribed in the branch business plan.
Conduct active marketing campaigns to attract new clients.
Orient prospective clients about MoHI’s individual loan products.
Assist in market research, survey activities, and product development recommendations.
Improve credit delivery strategies and prepare periodic reports/projections.
Management of Clients
Implement credit policies and procedures.
Facilitate the formation and recruitment of solidarity groups.
Ensure clients contribute to the weekly and monthly loan guarantee fund (LGF).
Attend and add value to group meetings, providing regular guidance and business ethics counsel.
Loan Portfolio Management
Perform thorough appraisal of loan applications to ensure timely disbursement and recovery.
Conduct credit investigations on applicants and guarantors.
Inspect and appraise property offered as collateral.
Present credit applications to the committee for approval and manage savings portfolios.
Training and General Responsibilities
Facilitate group training on lending policies.
Induct new staff and maintain up-to-date data for all clients.
Coordinate with stakeholders including Chiefs, CDAs, and other NGOs.
Maintain assigned equipment and assets.
Requirements & Qualifications
A Bachelor's degree in a business-related field.
A Diploma in micro-finance management, cooperative management, or marketing is an added advantage.
At least 2 years of relevant work experience with client mobilization skills and micro-finance exposure.
Must be a committed Christian.
Superior knowledge of PC use and Microsoft Office applications.
Proficient in spoken and written English and Kiswahili.
