Job Description
The position of Cook III (REF NO: KIMC/CK/8/01/2026) is the entry grade for the Cook cadre within the Kenya Institute of Mass Communication (KIMC). An Officer at this level will work under a senior officer, primarily focusing on meal preparation, service, and maintaining hygiene standards in the kitchen.
Duties and Responsibilities
Duties and responsibilities at this level will entail:
Preparing meals and ensuring efficient service delivery.
Receiving menu interpretation from the immediate supervisor.
Setting up work stations with all needed ingredients and cooking equipment.
Checking quality of ingredients.
Keeping a sanitized and orderly environment in the kitchen.
Operating and maintaining kitchen equipment such as boilers, ovens, grills, fryers and any other kitchen equipment.
Ensuring portion control during service time to ensure right quantity of food is served.
Preparing and producing food.
Person Specifications and Qualifications
For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have:
Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education mean grade of D (Plain) or its equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
Craft Certificate in any of the following disciplines: Food Production, Food and Beverage Production, Food and Beverage Service and Sales or its equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
Food Handlers’ Certificate.
Certificate in computer application skills.
Terms of Service
The successful candidate will be on Permanent and Pensionable terms of service. The minimum basic salary for this position will range from Kshs. 20,779 to Kshs. 28,462 per month exclusive of allowances.
