Job Description
The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) is seeking a Maritime Engineering Expert to support its Global Maritime Crime Programme (GMCP) for the Gulf of Aden and Red Sea regions. Working under the overall supervision of the UNODC Regional Representative (ROEA) and direct supervision of the Programme Coordinator, the consultant will provide technical expertise and capacity-building support to maritime law enforcement agencies.
Responsibilities
Coordinate with Gulf of Aden and Red Sea countries and relevant agencies to identify areas of assistance needed.
Prepare training materials specific to Maritime Engineering, including Basic and Advanced courses.
Provide Maritime Engineering technical assistance as required according to the Implementation Matrix planning.
Deliver on-the-job training to relevant agencies.
Elaborate End of Activity Reports for Maritime Law Enforcement (MLE) trainings or mission reports for other technical assistance.
Contribute newsletter inputs for GMCP updates.
Support coordination of UNODC GMCP activities in-country as needed.
Identify training needs of beneficiary country MLE agencies/units and review operational and logistics requirements.
Complete monitoring and evaluation requirements, including individualized feedback and collection of participant data.
Submit photos and written descriptions of capacity-building activities for programme visibility materials.
Manage documentation by uploading agendas, attendance sheets, and reports to Basecamp and SharePoint.
Requirements and Qualifications
Education: An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in criminal justice, Science, Engineering, Marine Systems Engineering, Naval Architecture, or related fields. Alternatively, a first-level university degree with two (2) additional years of qualifying experience, or professional certifications from recognized national/international authorities with four (4) additional years of experience, may be accepted.
Experience: At least 7 years of relevant working experience and expertise in a maritime technical environment is required.
Environmental Context: Proven experience working in a related field in a difficult or conflict environment is mandatory.
