The Compliance Manager role at British American Tobacco (BAT) Kenya plc is a leadership position responsible for overseeing the review of processes and systems to ensure strict adherence to both BAT Group standards and local corporate governance requirements. This role serves as a process custodian, executing strategic compliance frameworks and providing critical reporting to the Board of Directors and Senior Leadership.
Responsibilities and Duties
Compliance & Operational Reviews: Perform systematic compliance reviews on high-risk processes and conduct independent risk-based operational process reviews to ensure that business procedures support the achievement of organizational objectives.
Reporting: Prepare accurate and detailed written reports for the Board of Directors and Senior Leadership Team, explaining findings and proposing actionable remedial plans.
Risk & Control Framework: Drive the review of the risk and control framework and lead cross-functional teams through the annual Control Navigator self-assessment, monitoring the implementation of action plans.
Investigations: Carry out ad-hoc investigations and reviews into suspected irregularities and report outcomes to the Board and senior management.
Training & Development: Provide formal training sessions for management and staff to foster a culture of risk awareness and control compliance.
Administrative Support: Provide support to the Board Audit & Risk Committee, including the preparation of official papers, and support the business during internal and external audits.
Process Optimization: Develop and implement process efficiency improvements based on best practices and Group standardization.
Governance Monitoring: Perform monthly monitoring and reporting of internal controls and governance in line with the Kenya Governance Committee's Terms of Reference.
Skills, Experience, and Qualifications
Education: A relevant university degree is required.
Professional Certification: Must possess a professional accountancy qualification such as ACCA or CPA.
Experience: A minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in finance or audit, with at least 3 years in a controlling or audit-specific field.
Technical Skills: Working knowledge of SAP is an added advantage; proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is essential.
Soft Skills: Strong communication, interpersonal, and influencing skills with the ability to interact with the Board and senior management. Must be proactive, creative, and capable of working independently on project management tasks.
