Role Overview
The Communications Officer is responsible for managing Practical Action’s Africa Directorate social media presence and all associated communications resources and tools. This role involves drafting, editing, and producing content for both internal and external materials in English and French. The officer will support regional visibility across Africa by collaborating with country-specific teams and contributing to strategic advocacy and engagement campaigns.
Key Responsibilities
- Social Media & Resource Management: Manage the Africa Directorate's social media pages and maintain a repository of communication assets ensuring quality, consistency, and accessibility.
- Content Production: Draft and produce memos, emails, reports, and social media posts in both English and French.
- Research & Reporting: Conduct research and create engaging presentations on topics relevant to Practical Action's work in Africa and the broader sector.
- Regional Coordination: Collaborate with country communications teams to align messaging, deliver joint initiatives, and strengthen visibility.
- Campaign Planning: Lead the delivery of regional communications campaigns aligned with key advocacy and policy dialogue moments.
- Capacity Strengthening: Plan and coordinate initiatives to strengthen the capacity of country communications teams across Africa.
- Global Collaboration: Work closely with global colleagues to contribute to the overall objectives of the Africa Directorate.
Experience & Knowledge
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, International Development, or a related field.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience working with an international organization in a relevant capacity.
- Proficiency in writing and editing with high attention to detail and nuance.
- Familiarity with social media platforms and content management systems.
- Proven experience in research, data analysis, and interpreting findings into compelling narratives.
- Familiarity with research methods such as surveys, interviews, and digital analytics.
- Strong understanding of African development contexts, media landscapes, and communication sensitivities.
- Knowledge of gender transformation, inclusion, and diversity within the climate and socio-economic context of the Africa Region.
Essential Technical Skills
- Skilled in professional photography and videography using professional-grade equipment.
- Proficient in Graphic Design, including software such as Adobe Premiere Pro.
- Experienced in creative content development for social media.
- Bilingual proficiency in English and French (oral and written).
