Role Overview
The United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON) is seeking a Communication & Social Media Intern to support the United Nations Information Service (UNIS). Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual's background, the assigned office, and the internship period. The intern will work under the direct supervision of the Public Information Officer.
Key Responsibilities
Photography & Videography: Assist in photography assignments. Ensure all UNIS requests for photography and videography are fulfilled, including the production of short videos tailored to current digital audience needs.
Visual Content Creation: Assist in creating compelling visual assets using programs like Canva, Adobe In-Design, and Illustrator for UNIS social media platforms and websites.
Content Development: Assist in drafting content for UNIS Nairobi social media platforms and the website to enhance interactivity.
Media Monitoring: Conduct daily media monitoring and gather newspaper headlines.
Public Engagement: Help increase online engagement on platforms like Facebook Live, specifically targeting youth in alignment with UNIS advocacy campaigns and events.
Administrative Support: Assist in setting up registrations for participants, including media accreditation and registration, and undertake other assignments as needed to support UNIS activities.
Qualifications and Experience
Applicants must meet one of the following educational requirements at the time of application:
Be enrolled in a graduate school program (second university degree or higher).
Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent).
Have graduated with a Bachelor's, Master's, PhD, or equivalent degree.
Skills and Competencies
Technical Proficiency: Computer literate in standard software applications (Microsoft Office Suite).
Specialized Skills: Familiarity with design tools (Canva, Adobe Creative Suite) and photography/videography is highly desirable.
Personal Commitment: Demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter.
Interpersonal Skills: Ability to interact successfully with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs; willingness to understand and be tolerant of differing opinions.
Work Experience: No professional work experience is required, but the field of study (Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Social Sciences, Graphic Design, IT) must be related to the internship.
