The role of the Clinical Officer involves providing essential clinical services across outpatient and inpatient health facilities within the County Government of Kitui. This is a permanent and pensionable position, requiring professional registration and adherence to clinical standards.
Salary Scale and Terms of Service
The position is classified with the following salary scale and terms:
- Salary Scale (Ksh. per month): 39,700 x 1,470 – 41,170 x 1,520 – 42,690 x 1,710 – 44,400 x 1,920 – 46,320 x 2,000 – 48,320 x 2,290 – 50,610 x 2,350 – 52,690.
- Terms of Service: Permanent and Pensionable.
Duties and Responsibilities
Responsibilities at this level will include:
- Taking history of the patient; examining, diagnosing, and treating patient’s common ailments at an outpatient or inpatient health facility.
- Guiding and counseling patients, clients, and staff on health issues.
- Organizing health management teams and convening health management committee meetings at level 2 health facilities.
- Referring patients and clients to appropriate health facilities.
- Preparing medico-legal briefs on clinical services.
- Coaching and mentoring students on attachment.
- Carrying out surgical procedures as per scope of training.
- Organizing health management teams and convening health management committee meetings.
- Collecting and compiling data for research on clinical services issues.
Requirements for Appointment
For appointment to this grade, a candidate must meet the following requirements:
- Be a Citizen of Kenya.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Clinical Medicine and Community Health or its equivalent qualification from a recognized Institution.
- OR A Bachelor’s Degree in any of the following disciplines: Community Health and Development, Psychology, Public Health, Medical Education, Health Systems Management, Health Profession Education, Medical Sociology, Comprehensive Ophthalmology and Cataract Surgery, Sports Medicine or Health Promotion from a recognized Institution Plus a Diploma in Clinical Medicine and Surgery or its equivalent qualification from a recognized Institution.
- OR A Higher Diploma in Clinical Medicine and Surgery in any of the following disciplines: Ear, Nose, Throat, Head and Neck Surgery, Audiology and Hearing Care, Speech and Language Pathology, Ophthalmology (Cataract Surgery/Advanced 21 Refraction and Low Vision), Emergency and Critical Care, Pediatric Emergency and Critical care, Nephrology, Oncology, Cardiology, Cardio-Pulmonary perfusion, Palliative and Hospice Care, Mental Health and Psychiatry, Clinical Services, Child Health and Pediatrics, Anesthesia, Orthopedics and Trauma Surgery, Epidemiology, Chest Medicine, Chronic Disease Management, Reproductive Health, Medical Education, Dermatology and Venereology, Family Health, Sonography or any other equivalent qualification from a recognized Institution.
- Certificate of Registration from the Clinical Officers’ Council.
- Valid Professional Practice License from the Clinical Officers’ Council.
- Proficiency in computer applications.
