The Clean Energy Access Research Fellow – Data Analyst at CLASP will be responsible for driving a variety of internal and external facing research activities, primarily supporting the Clean Energy Access initiative with a focus on Productive Use of Energy (PUE) Appliances.
Key Responsibilities
The Fellow's responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Supporting the Clean Energy Access initiative through data analytics and research focused on Productive Use of Energy (PUE) Appliances.
- Developing and refining PUE appliance market sizing models for selected African markets, in collaboration with the data scientist.
- Analysing sales and performance data of partner PUE appliances.
- Co-leading data collection, management and analysis of ongoing and upcoming Productive Use of Renewable Energy Demonstrators (PURE DEMO).
- Designing, developing and maintaining dashboards and data visualization for the consumer impact study, PURE DEMO and other CLASP projects.
- Data synthesis from internal CLASP databases and relevant external repositories to support research and decision making.
- In collaboration with the LEIA research lead, Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning lead, and the data scientist, develop a data modelling tool to simulate efficient appliance access and associated impacts.
The Ideal Candidate: Desired Education and Experience
CLASP is seeking candidates who possess the following qualifications and attributes:
- A recent Master’s degree (preferred, up to 3 years experience post-graduation) in Data Analytics, Statistics, Economics, Engineering, Computer Science, Energy Systems, Development Studies, or a related quantitative field.
- A research-based Bachelor’s degree (required) in the aforementioned fields combined with 3 years of relevant professional experience.
- Demonstrated experience using data analysis tools and visualization software (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, Python libraries like Matplotlib/Seaborn, or R’s ggplot2).
- Academic or practical training in data analysis, research methods, and statistical modeling.
- Coursework or demonstrated experience related to energy access, clean energy, international development, or African markets is highly desirable.
- Understanding of clean energy access, Productive Use of Energy (PUE), or renewable energy technologies is an asset.
