Job Description
The Chief, Nutrition reports to the Deputy Representative for general guidance and direction. The Chief is responsible for managing and supervising all stages of the nutrition programme, from strategic planning and formulation to delivery of results. The Chief is also responsible for leading and managing the Nutrition team, along with strong collaboration with the Health and WASH sections on CSD imperatives, and other sections on cross-sectoral programmes. Accountabilities include ensuring concrete and sustainable results in maternal, infant, and child nutrition programmes are achieved in accordance with plans, allocation, results-based management approaches and methodology (RBM), as well as UNICEF’s Strategic Plans, standards of performance, and accountability framework.
Summary of Key Functions and Accountabilities
Managerial Leadership: Lead and manage the Nutrition team to deliver high-quality strategic results.
Programme Development and Planning: Manage strategic planning, formulation, and development of nutrition interventions.
Programme Management, Monitoring and Quality Control: Supervise implementation, monitoring, and quality control of results using RBM approaches.
Advisory Services and Technical Support: Provide guidance on nutrition policies, health systems, and food systems.
Advocacy, Networking and Partnership Building: Represent UNICEF, build strategic partnerships, and advocate for child and maternal nutrition.
Innovation, Knowledge Management and Capacity Building: Drive innovation, knowledge management, and capacity development within the team and partner organisations.
Minimum Requirements
Education: Master's or equivalent (Advanced University Degree) in Nutrition, Public Health, Nutritional Epidemiology, Global/International Health and Nutrition, Health/Nutrition Research, Policy and/or Management, Health Sciences, or another health-related science field.
Work Experience: At least 10 years of relevant work experience in Nutrition, Public Health, Nutrition Policy, Health Systems, Food Systems, Humanitarian Nutrition, and related fields.
Skills: Proven experience in managerial leadership, advocacy, partnership building, and strategic thinking.
Language Requirements: Fluency in English is required.
Desirables
Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish) or a local language.
Experience in health/nutrition programme/project development and management in a UN system agency or organization.
Relevant experience at country level, particularly in development, fragile settings, and humanitarian contexts.
