Role Overview
Our client, a real-time payment services company established in 2015 under the National Payment System (NPS) Act, is seeking to onboard a Chief Finance & Administration Officer (CFAO). The CFAO will be a key member of the executive leadership team with shared accountability for enterprise strategy formulation, execution, and long-term business performance. You will provide strategic, financial, and operational leadership to ensure the organization achieves its mission, remains financially sustainable, and delivers measurable business outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Strategy Formulation and Execution
- Together with the CEO and senior leadership team, participate in the formulation of the business strategy.
- Translate organization strategy into clear financial, operational, and performance frameworks.
- Lead the development of multi-year business and financial plans.
- Monitor and evaluate strategy execution through performance data and financial results.
- Ensure strategic initiatives are appropriately funded, sequenced, and governed.
Planning, Financial Strategy, and Business Leadership
- Lead the organization’s financial strategy and plan for investment opportunities for excess funds.
- Provide data-driven financial advice to senior management on profitability and growth opportunities.
- Lead budget planning, monitoring, and control processes across the organization.
- Set up and continuously improve the organization’s finance IT and financial management systems.
Financial Analysis and Performance Management
- Lead enterprise-wide financial and performance analysis.
- Analyze financial performance, trends, and variances to identify strategic risks and opportunities.
- Assess financial strengths and weaknesses and recommend corrective actions.
- Support revenue growth, margin improvement, and cost-efficiency initiatives.
Legal, Regulatory, and Governance Compliance
- Provide executive oversight of tax compliance and regulatory obligations.
- Ensure full compliance with all statutory, regulatory, and governance requirements.
- Approve significant financial commitments and lead annual audit planning.
Administration Support Oversight
- Provide executive oversight of the organization’s administrative function to ensure operational efficiency.
- Supervise and guide the Administrative Officer and office support staff.
- Oversee procurement administration and general office controls.
Financial Risk Management
- Champion the analysis of the organization’s liabilities and investments.
- Decide on investment strategies by considering cash and liquidity risks.
- Understand and mitigate key elements of the company's financial risk profile.
Qualifications and Experience
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in a Business related field (Commerce, Economics, Accounting, Finance). Master’s Degree in Business Administration or Financial Management is an added advantage.
- Certification: Qualified Chartered Public Accountant of Kenya (CPAK) and a current member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants (Kenya) in good standing.
- Experience: At least ten (10) years of financial management experience, 5 of which must be at senior management level leading a Finance & Strategy function.
- Sector Experience: Previous experience within a financial services or FinTech environment is highly preferred.
Skills and Competencies
- High emotional intelligence and negotiation prowess.
- Deep understanding of financial and business strategy models.
- Tech-savvy with a good grasp of financial and procurement management systems.
- Strong financial and accounting knowledge (IFRS/IAS/SIC/IFIRC).
- Highly analytical with strong problem-solving skills.
- Strong leadership with the ability to delegate, motivate, and inspire teams.
