About the Role
M.P. Shah Hospital is seeking a qualified and dedicated Cardiac Sonographer. The Cardiac Sonographer is responsible for generating high-quality diagnostic cardiac images, performing various echocardiograms, and assisting cardiologists with advanced procedures. The role involves managing patient comfort and safety, maintaining diagnostic equipment, and ensuring accurate reporting to facilitate clinical decision-making.
Duties & Responsibilities
Diagnostic Imaging: Generate high quality diagnostic images by accurately positioning transducer, monitoring display, listening to signals, adjusting beam strength and focus, detecting artifacts that mimic abnormalities, and recording images.
Specialized Assistance: Assist in dobutamine Stress Echocardiogram and contrast Echocardiography for both in and outpatients. Assist Cardiologists in performing Trans-Esophageal Echo (TEE).
Reporting: Write Echocardiogram reports, to be countersigned by the cardiologist.
Patient Care: Promote patient care and comfort by adequately preparing patient for echocardiogram through proper explanation of exam procedures, answering questions and providing ambulatory assistance.
Clinical Decision Support: Facilitate clinical decision making by producing measurements of heart wall, chamber size and blood flow direction and velocity and comparing measurements to established norms.
Exam Accuracy: Ensure exam accuracy by reviewing patient’s medical record to obtain necessary clinical information including patient history, lab results, and physician orders, and comparing requisitions to physicians’ orders.
Patient Safety: Facilitate patient safety by adhering to infection-control policy and protocols, administering first aid, and aiding the emergency team.
Quality Assurance: Achieve quality assurance and control by completing preventive maintenance requirements through proper calibration; following manufacturer's information; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs and maintaining equipment inventories.
Workflow Optimization: Aid in reducing turnaround times by prioritizing, coordinating, and scheduling patients coming for echocardiographic procedures and ensuring timely issuance of patient reports.
Equipment Maintenance: Collaborate with Biomedical Engineers to ensure prompt maintenance of equipment.
Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of tests carried out by ensuring correct data entry on computers, report forms, as well as batch registers.
Collaboration & Education: Maintain effective communication with other members of the multidisciplinary team for effective patient care. Participate in unit-based continuing education and implementation of quality control programs in the department.
Performance Indicators: Assist the manager in data collection and monitoring of identified unit-based quality and performance indicators.
Outreach: Participate in departmental events such as public screening for heart disease, medical camps, heart day activities and conferences.
Minimum Requirements
Education: Degree in Radiography / Diploma in Radiography and a Higher Diploma or Certificate in Echocardiography from a reputable university or college.
Registration: Registration with the relevant professional body.
Certifications: Valid certificate in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS).
