Job Description
M-KOPA is on a mission to make high-quality energy affordable to everyone. Having connected more than 400,000 homes in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda to solar power, we are looking for a Business Intelligence Manager to join our team in Nairobi. In this role, you will serve as the strategic early-warning system for Kenya Operations, proactively identifying emerging threats and opportunities before they impact the business.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Intelligence & Proactive Solution Development
Proactively identify emerging threats and opportunities.
Develop unsolicited strategic recommendations based on data patterns, market dynamics, or competitive moves.
Anticipate leadership's strategic questions and arrive at meetings with prepared analysis.
Build advanced forecasting models and design scenario planning frameworks to pressure-test strategies.
Challenge strategic assumptions with rigorous analysis and transform complex datasets into compelling narratives for executive decision-making.
Conduct deep-dive root cause analyses and build business cases for strategic initiatives, quantifying ROI.
Market & Competitive Intelligence
Maintain comprehensive competitive intelligence to understand competitors' strategic intent and vulnerabilities.
Develop competitive response strategies and build war-gaming scenarios.
Identify strategic whitespace and underserved segments for growth opportunities.
Monitor the fintech and financial services ecosystem for emerging models or technologies.
Translate regulatory developments into strategic implications and develop point-of-view perspectives on market trends.
Build relationships with industry experts and regulatory bodies.
Customer Intelligence & Commercial Strategy
Develop deep customer insights to understand motivations and unmet needs.
Identify customer segments with attractive unit economics and support pricing strategy with commercial insights.
Translate customer insights into product and marketing strategies that drive acquisition and retention.
Build financial models linking customer acquisition strategies to long-term unit economics.
Performance Management & Strategic Diagnostics
Design executive dashboards that highlight necessary actions.
Establish leading indicators for early warning of performance issues.
Conduct proactive variance analyses and build self-service analytics for managers.
Create KPI frameworks that align operational activities with strategic objectives.
Serve as a thought partner to department heads on strategic challenges.
Facilitate strategic planning sessions and identify cross-functional opportunities.
Build analytical capability across organization-wide teams.
Serve as a strategic translator between technical and commercial teams.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Business, Economics, Finance, Engineering, or a related quantitative field.
6-8 years combining strategic analysis, business intelligence, and hands-on business management.
Demonstrated ownership of strategic initiatives end-to-end.
Proven track record of identifying business opportunities or risks resulting in strategic action.
Experience in high-growth fintech, financial services, telecoms, or technology sectors.
Background in East African markets with understanding of Kenya's commercial, regulatory, and competitive dynamics is preferred.
