Gulf African Bank (GAB) is the first Islamic bank in Kenya, established to provide an ethical and fair mode of banking based on Shari'ah principles. We are looking for a Branch Operations Manager to oversee the daily operational activities of the branch.
The Branch Operations Manager is responsible for ensuring excellence in service delivery, maintaining strict adherence to banking regulations and internal policies, and managing branch assets and cash flow effectively. The role involves leading the operations team to support growth and customer retention objectives while ensuring high levels of operational efficiency and risk management.
Key Responsibilities
Vault and ATM/CDM Custodianship: Ensure ATM downtimes are kept at a minimal, and ATM and Vault limits are maintained. Act as the second custodian of all bank payment instruments including cheque books and debit cards.
Cash Management: Ensure branch cash holding limits are adhered to, excess overnight cash holding is covered, and any cash differences are reported and resolved. Coordinate cash repatriations and manage CDM deposits.
Operational Oversight: Ensure the branch undertakes various snap checks as guided by Head Office and Quality Assurance functions. Implement audit recommendations pertaining to all departments under your jurisdiction.
Business Growth Support: Deputize the Branch Manager by actively promoting customer uptake and utilization of all bank channels. Lead the operations team in achieving retention, acquisition, and growth goals.
Reporting and Monitoring: Conduct daily, weekly, and monthly reviews of branch operations reports. Monitor transactions (withdrawals, deposits, transfers) to identify and prevent money laundering and fraudulent activities.
Compliance: Approve new accounts in line with KYC procedures and ensure adherence to AML processes. Ensure all accounts transacting above reporting thresholds fill in the necessary large cash forms.
Customer Service: Appraise and promptly address customer issues/complaints, escalating as necessary to ensure timely resolution within set Turnaround Times (TAT).
Team Leadership: Build and develop a high-performing and motivated staff team through teamwork, a good working environment, and regular duty rotations.
Branch Administration: Ensure the branch is opened and closed as per approved timelines and that operations staff are ready to serve customers immediately.
Requirements and Qualifications
A University degree (Holders of a Business-related degree will have an added advantage).
Professional Banking Qualification (AKIB) or accounting qualifications will have an added advantage.
Minimum 5 years’ proven working experience in a Banking environment, with sound exposure to Branch Operations, processes, and customer service roles.
Good understanding of the bank’s systems, specifically the core banking system iMAL.
Excellent Bank product knowledge.
Proficiency in core and other banking systems.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
