The University of Nairobi is seeking a Blockchain Technology Track Mentor / Facilitator for a two-year fixed-term contract based in Nairobi. Reporting to the Principal Investigator, the successful candidate will guide participants through the blockchain innovation track, helping them master blockchain fundamentals and apply distributed ledger technology to real-world challenges while building prototypes aligned with Kenya’s digital transformation agenda.
Responsibilities
Deliver high-quality blockchain sessions during boot camps and hackathons, covering concepts like distributed ledgers, smart contracts, NFTs, and DeFi.
Mentor participants throughout the innovation cycle, from ideation to prototype design and testing.
Provide one-on-one and group mentorship to startups developing solutions for agriculture, finance, logistics, and health.
Collaborate with technical experts to foster an interdisciplinary learning environment.
Design and refine blockchain learning modules, labs, and hands-on exercises.
Facilitate design-thinking sessions and innovation sprints.
Coordinate technical clinics and guide participants in using tools like Solidity, Remix IDE, MetaMask, Hardhat, and Truffle.
Provide technical feedback on prototypes regarding scalability, sustainability, and compliance.
Connect participants with professional networks, industry partners, and incubation opportunities.
Support documentation, progress reporting, and post-event reviews.
Qualifications and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
At least three (3) years of experience in blockchain application development, distributed ledger systems, or fintech innovation.
Proven experience in mentorship, technical facilitation, or training delivery within technology boot camps.
Practical experience developing smart contracts, dApps, or blockchain systems on platforms like Ethereum, Solana, or Hyperledger.
Experience in multi-stakeholder innovation ecosystems or university-affiliated R&D projects.
Desirable Attributes
Certification in Blockchain Technology, Web3 Development, or Smart Contract Programming.
Experience in university innovation hubs or digital skills training projects.
Knowledge of blockchain regulatory and governance frameworks in Kenya or Africa.
Skills and Competencies
Strong technical knowledge of blockchain architectures and consensus mechanisms.
Excellent facilitation and instructional delivery skills for youth innovators.
Proficiency in Solidity, Remix IDE, Hardhat, Truffle, and MetaMask.
Analytical problem-solving and excellent communication skills.
High ethical standards and commitment to responsible technology development.
