Jumuia Resorts is a chain of Christian conference centers and hospitality facilities owned and operated by the National Council of Churches of Kenya (NCCK). We are seeking a qualified Assistant Finance Officer to support our finance department in managing daily financial operations and maintaining accurate records. This role is crucial for ensuring the organizational financial health by processing transactions, monitoring budgets, and maintaining compliance with both internal policies and external statutory regulations.
Key Responsibilities
Cash Management: Conduct and maintain proper records of the daily float in the safe, ensuring prompt daily reporting to the Resorts Manager.
Payments & Receipts: Receive and receipt payments from guests and related parties; facilitate the payment of casual wages and manage all petty cash payments in accordance with established procedures, ensuring vouchers are authorized and documented.
Banking: Responsible for the encashment of cheques and the stamping of all paid invoices.
Reconciliation: Reconcile daily sales reports from all unit outlets and prepare monthly stock reconciliation, food and beverage sales, and motor vehicle fuel consumption reports.
Financial Reporting: Prepare intermediate management reports, including creditors and debtors reports, and monthly cash flow reconciliation reports for the Resorts Manager and Assistant Finance Manager.
Accounting Maintenance: Post cash receipt journals and maintain proper bookkeeping of the unit's accounting records.
Debt & Procurement: Manage debt collection and follow-ups within the unit's policy guidelines; facilitate purchases of operations equipment, supplies, and materials while monitoring store inventory and conducting vendor prequalification for pricing.
Strategic Implementation: Fully implement the Jumuia Resorts Strategic plan and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Requirements & Qualifications
Education: At least a Secondary School Education (KCSE).
Professional Qualification: At least a Bachelor's degree in Finance and Accounting, Commerce (Finance Option), Finance and Economics, or Accounting and Financial Management.
Certification: Must have at least CPA Part II. Possession of CPA-K will be a distinct advantage.
Experience: A minimum of one year of experience working in a similar position.
Skills & Competencies
Highest standards of integrity and ethics.
Good communication, attention to detail, and analytical thinking skills.
Deep understanding of Kenyan tax laws, specifically for filing KRA returns.
Proficiency in computer packages, especially Microsoft Excel.
Hands-on experience with ERP systems such as QuickBooks for data entry and ledger management.
Ability to assist in preparing trial balances, P&L statements, and cash flow forecasts.
Knowledge of IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards) and the ability to maintain organized files for audits.
