Assistant Director, Technical Services

The role of the Assistant Director, Technical Services, involves providing senior management oversight and coordination for technical operations, particularly those related to electronic and electrical programs and infrastructure within the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD). The successful candidate will ensure technical efficiency, compliance with specifications, and effective management of technical assets and projects.

Duties and Responsibilities

Duties and responsibilities at this level will entail:

• Coordinating the preparation of cost estimates for proposed electronic/electrical programs in the Institute;
• Ensuring that documents are prepared in accordance with proposed specifications/requirements;
• Undertaking preventive and corrective measures in the maintenance of the Institute’s technical equipment and systems;
• Making recommendations on the purchase and installation of technical equipment and systems;
• Carrying out technical evaluation of proposed technical projects and equipment;
• Ensuring proper storage of technical hardware and related software; and
• Supervising the implementation of technical projects, commissioning and final acceptance of completed projects.

Job Specifications (Qualifications and Experience)

For appointment to this grade, an officer must have:

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/ Electronic Engineering or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;
• Master’s degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;
• At least 10 years’ relevant experience and 4 years in a management role;
• Leadership course lasting not less than four (4) weeks from a recognized institution;
• Management course lasting not less than four (4) weeks from a recognized institution;
• Registered by Engineers Registration Board of Kenya or relevant professional body;
• Computer literacy;
• Demonstrated managerial, administrative, and professional competence in work performance and results; and
• Fulfill the requirements of Chapter Six of Constitution.
