Job Description
Garissa University is seeking to recruit qualified individuals for the position of Assistant Computer Technologist I (ICT Support & Electronics Technologist) – GaU Grade 7. This role involves maintaining and repairing ICT infrastructure and specialized electronic equipment across the campus. The successful candidates will be responsible for ensuring that all university hardware, software, networking, and electronic security systems operate effectively to support the institution's academic and administrative goals.
Key Responsibilities
Repair and maintain computer hardware, software, networking devices, electronic equipment, printers, monitors, and Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS).
Prepare and monitor maintenance procedures and oversee the installation and upgrading of computer software and hardware.
Provide direct assistance to end-users and students within departments and computer laboratories.
Obtain and configure software for ICT training labs and guide students during practical attachments.
Perform diagnostic repairs and preventative maintenance on high-volume printers, desktop computers, and laboratory equipment.
Install, configure, and maintain IP-based CCTV systems and biometric access control systems.
Terminate and test structured cabling, including both Fiber and Ethernet.
Provide dedicated technical support to faculty and students to ensure minimal disruption to learning.
Manage the Video Management System (VMS) and Network Video Recorders (NVRs), ensuring consistent recording, storage optimization, and remote viewing availability.
Perform regular firmware updates and physical cleaning of surveillance camera lenses and biometric sensors.
Utilize Remote Helpdesk Tools to provide software troubleshooting for staff offices across various campus locations.
Maintain an accurate inventory of all ICT assets and track the lifecycle of consumables like printer toners and UPS batteries to prevent downtime.
Job Specifications
Kenya Certificate of Secondary Examination (KCSE) mean Grade C (plain) or its equivalent, with passes in Mathematics and English.
A Diploma in Information Technology, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or any other relevant and equivalent qualification from a recognized Institution.
At least three (3) years of working experience in a relevant field.
Practical certification or demonstrable experience in IP Surveillance (e.g., Hikvision, Dahua, or Milestone) and Electronic Security Systems.
Proficiency in Operating Systems (Windows 10/11, Linux) and common productivity suites (Office 365/Google Workspace).
Ability to perform basic soldering and component-level electronics repair is highly desirable.
Fulfil the requirements of Chapter 6 of the Constitution of Kenya.
