The Accounts Manager at Kenya Railways is responsible for providing strategic leadership in the formulation, implementation, maintenance, and review of sound financial policies, systems, and procedures. This role ensures the Corporation operates in compliance with the Constitution of Kenya 2010, the Public Finance Management (PFM) Act 2012, International Accounting Standards (IAS), and other relevant legal frameworks to enhance accountability and transparency.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide leadership in the formulation, implementation, and review of financial policies and procedures.
- Oversee the preparation of annual and quarterly financial statements.
- Lead the payables management function and direct asset management for the Corporation.
- Oversee assessment and management of tax risks and ensure compliance with relevant tax laws.
- Coordinate both internal and external audit activities and maintain the General Ledger.
- Spearhead divisional annual work plans, budgets, and procurement/asset disposal plans in line with strategic goals.
- Execute risk management policies and internal controls to ensure business continuity and succession management.
- Foster a corporate culture promoting ethical practices, good citizenship, and principles of Corporate Governance.
- Implement performance management systems and provide leadership through supervision, coaching, and mentoring of staff.
Requirements and Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Business Administration or a relevant field from a recognized institution.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce, Finance, or its equivalent from a recognized institution.
- Must be a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or equivalent.
- Registered member of ICPAK in good standing.
- A minimum of ten (10) years of relevant working experience, with at least five (5) years in Senior Management.
- Completion of a management course lasting at least four (4) weeks is an added advantage.
