Role Overview
The Reconciliation Accountant is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records by reconciling bank statements with internal accounting ledgers, identifying discrepancies, and ensuring timely resolution. This role is essential for safeguarding assets, preventing fraud, and supporting audit readiness. Additionally, the officer will be responsible for monitoring branch collection reports.
Key Responsibilities
- Daily Monitoring: Oversee daily receipts and monitor branch accountants' banking and receipting reports.
- Transaction Verification: Review all daily transaction entries to verify the correctness and completeness of the captured data and advise on required actions.
- Reconciliation: Perform reconciliation and sign-off of bank accounts.
- Departmental Liaison: Coordinate with internal departments (finance, operations, IT, underwriting, and business) to resolve reconciliation issues within allowed Turnaround Times (TAT).
- Discrepancy Resolution: Investigate and resolve discrepancies in financial data between internal systems and external parties (e.g., banks, brokers) in a timely manner.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of reconciliation activities and adjustments.
- Management Reporting: Prepare and maintain reconciliation reports and summaries for management review.
- Escalation Management: Escalate unresolved issues and aged reconciling items appropriately and ensure timely follow-up/clearance of outstanding items.
- Investigation: Trace and pursue long-outstanding items in the reconciliation process.
Requirements and Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Experience: 2+ years of experience in accounting or finance.
- Professional Certifications: CPA or ACCA certification is considered an added advantage.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage, or SAP.
- General Skills: Basic working knowledge of MS Office applications, particularly Excel and Word.
