Morsan is a global powerhouse in HR consultancy, with a strong reputation built on excellent client relationships. We are seeking an Accountant Intern to join our team in Nairobi. This role is designed to provide hands-on experience in financial record keeping, tax compliance, and payroll processing within the Kenyan regulatory framework. The successful candidate will support the finance department while learning professional accounting standards and practices.
Key Responsibilities
Ledger Management: Assist in maintaining and updating general ledger accounts and support the preparation and processing of journal entries, invoices, payments, and receipts.
Reconciliations: Help reconcile bank statements, supplier accounts, and customer accounts to ensure accuracy of financial data.
Transactional Support: Support accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions.
Financial Reporting: Assist in preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, and provide support in month-end and year-end closing activities.
Audit & Compliance: Prepare schedules and documentation for audits under supervision; assist in ensuring compliance with Kenyan tax laws and preparation of tax returns (PAYE, VAT, withholding taxes).
Asset Management: Help maintain fixed assets registers and depreciation schedules.
Statutory Filings: Support the timely submission of statutory reports and filings.
Payroll Support: Support payroll processing by preparing and verifying employee salary schedules, statutory deductions, and allowances, ensuring accuracy, confidentiality, and compliance with company policies and Kenyan regulations.
Internal Controls & Budgeting: Help maintain internal controls, adhere to financial policies, and assist in budget preparation and monitoring of expenses.
Collaboration: Collaborate with other departments to ensure the accuracy of financial data.
Requirements and Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Commerce with Finance or Accounting option from a recognized institution. Recent graduates or final-year students are encouraged to apply.
Certification: CPA qualification or ongoing CPA studies is an added advantage.
Knowledge: Basic knowledge of accounting principles and practices.
Technical Skills: Familiarity with accounting software such as SAP, SAGE, QuickBooks, and proficiency in Microsoft Office.
