The Student Welfare Associate at Tatu Primary acts as a culture champion for our Primary & International School by spearheading school student culture events within the school's vision and annual theme. In this role, you will engage with multiple stakeholders—students, parents, and academic teams—to cultivate a safe, supportive, and restorative school culture.
Key Responsibilities
Students
Student Government: Manage student government programmes including elections, induction, training, activities, and offboarding.
Student Voice: Provide safe channels for students to share feedback/ideas and address their concerns via student hours.
Happiness Surveys: Manage the student happiness survey process (scheduling, administration, data analysis, and leveraging data to improve students’ experience).
Mentorship & Culture: Lead student mentoring/buddy programmes to strengthen student relationships and provide structures for celebrating students who are living and leading the Nova Pioneer culture.
Onboarding & Policy: Coordinate student onboarding and orient continuing students to new expectations. In conjunction with the Deputy School Leader, own the implementation of the Student Code of Conduct handbook and related policies.
Daily Routines: Coordinate the school's daily routine from arrival to dismissal, ensuring the baraza and recess schedule is clearly mapped out and implemented.
Health & Safety: Lead health and safety activities, lead the health and safety committee, plan and coordinate emergency drills, and coordinate first aid training for all teammates and students.
Behavior Support: Understand how to support students in managing behaviour expectations using a restorative approach and guide instructional leads on how to apply Social-Emotional Learning (SEL).
Parents
Family Satisfaction: Manage the family satisfaction survey process (scheduling, administration, data analysis, and leveraging data to improve experience).
Transitions: Onboard new families and offboard families exiting the school.
Enrollment Coordination: Work with Administrative staff and Admissions to coordinate and track new enrollments/joiners, as well as coordinating beginning of year student onboarding activities such as Week Zero.
Academic & Student Affairs’ Teams
Professional Development: Conduct professional development and train teachers on managing student behaviour and building student character.
Leadership Development: Act as the primary owner of Student Leadership Development: Create plans and systems for teaching student leadership development, support rollout with teachers, provide training, and conduct observations and feedback.
People Management: Coach and manage the Student Affairs team, which comprises the School Nurses and School Counsellors.
Student Support Plans: Work with School Counsellors and teachers to create individual student behaviour plans and student support plans.
Operations & Duty Rotas: Coordinate school duty rotas and other relevant non-academic student life experiences (e.g., health and safety, dismissal, transitions, safety/fire drills).
Perform any other duties as assigned by your Manager.
Skills and Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in psychology, sociology, or the humanities; a degree in Education is highly desirable.
Leadership: Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills that encompass trust and respect, with a proven track record of leading team(s) at the entry or mid-level.
Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Organization: Very strong planning and organization skills (required for sending parent surveys, organizing student/teacher lists, and coordinating school events).
Tech Savvy: Experience using technology in educational or operational contexts.
Mindset: Critical thinker, flexible, adaptable, innovative, creative, and passionate about building strong relationships with students and parents.
Cultural Alignment: Excited about the organizational culture, embracing mutual vulnerability, and open to continuous feedback.
